At first, everything was great. Bailey had tons of energy and was the happy dog that we always knew. Then, three weeks later, chemo caught up with him. He had an upset stomach, was throwing up, and had lost so much weight that the doctor had concerns that we needed to run another scan. They put him on meds, I started feeding him anything and everything, and two weeks later, he is doing so much better. What a relief.
Then three days ago, I noticed that Rawwrr hadn't finished his food, which is very rare. We have had to ration what he eats for years now. The next morning, when he didn't come running when I fed him, I knew something was wrong. I took him to the vet. It turns out little Rawwrr was diabetic. They needed to keep him overnight and I would need to give him two shots of insulin a day for life.
The next morning, after taking Bailey to chemo then going to my BodyFlow class so I could relax from the crazy week of living at the vet, I got the call. Rawwrr had Ketones in his urine and needed immediate attention. I needed to pick him up from the vet and take him to the emergency vet. His breathing was also labored so they took an X-ray...they found that Rawwrr had either asthma, a heart condition, or pneumonia.
So I frantically called Stacey, Amy and Mandy, who I will never be able to thank enough, and they coordinated getting Maysie from school and taking care of Railey since it was a holiday.
Unfortunately, the emergency vet found that Rawwrr did have a heart condition and we had to euthanize him.
Rest in peace little Rawwrr. We will miss your nightly wrestling matches with Bella, your attacking of the cleaning crew when they tried to make our bed, growling at the delivery guys coming to the door, and even your hissing at the girls who loved you so.
And I of course need to include the famous Christmas card picture when Rawwrr was wrapped in a towel then duct taped to the manger. I dare you to find a better depiction of baby Jesus.
